Artist / Uriel Orlow
(nominated by Zineb Sedira) “Uriel and I have had a long lasting interest in issues on mobility and memory in a post-colonial world. I found Uriel’s approaches very inspiring and innovative. Over the last five years, I have seen his work, growing from strength to strength, in establishing a solid body of work in video and photography.” Zineb Sedira. ‘In Concert’ was made with two musicians from the Royal Academy where the score is internalised in the work, both in the memory and in the physical movements of the musicians. The first movement of Shostakovich First Cello Concerto is played by cellist and pianist without their instruments but to a recording they have previously made. By the end of the work we can almost ‘see’ the instruments as ghosts in the space.
